Long and consolidated experience in the manipulation of nucleic acids: extraction of DNA and RNA from different tissues and organisms, quantification, modification and sample processing for different analytical purposes.

Bioinformatics pipeline to identify and annotate genes by sequence and domain analysis.

Sample hybridization on cDNA/oligoDNA microarray platforms and RNA-sequencing have been applied to evaluate datasets of expressed genes and entire transcriptomes. As regards next generation sequencing we take care of sample preparation and data analysis (assembling, gene identification, sequence variation evaluation).

To measure and localize gene transcripts we experience Real Time PCR and in-situ hybridization techniques.

Also thanks to valuable collaborations, we have undertaken identification and study of bioactive peptides from mussels (Mytilus spp.) and other organisms: from in silico predictions to gene expression, antimicrobial activity and other functional assays on raw fractions and newly sinthezised peptides.

We can apply standard methods to evaluate toxic and genotoxic effects. For instance, selected fluorochromes or supravital dyes can be used to assess membrane damage and cytotoxicity whereas micronucleus and single-cell gel electrophoresis (comet) tests can be used to evaluate DNA damage levels in target cells from suitable tissues.

We have performed large trials on native and laboratory-challenged bivalves and can assure support to in vivo experiments on vertebrate fishes.
